Migrating 98,285 documents—and verifying every selected file

A NAS migration combining file selection, source-preserving copies, recovery and full checksum verification. This case is based on the completion record dated 21 August 2026.

01Define the scope before copying

The scope covered documents and scanned document images: PDFs, office files, spreadsheets and text. Video, music, applications and dedicated photo archives were excluded. CAD and design source files were listed separately for later review.

The agent organized the selection, copy workflow and verification records. The operator decided what belonged in the migration and required the sources to remain intact. A fixed selection makes completion measurable against a manifest rather than an approximate total size.

02Include preservation and recovery in the workflow

Files were copied without deleting the originals. An initial pass stopped on a permissions issue involving read-only folders. After correcting destination permissions, the missing files were copied and the complete selection was checked again.

A successful transfer command is not the same as a verified migration. The workflow retained manifests, transfer logs and checksum results, and tested basic file creation, reading and deletion on the destination. The handover recorded exceptions as well as successful steps.

03Results in the completion record

The completion record reports 98,285 files across three shares, totaling 278.35 GB in decimal units. The full checksum comparison found zero mismatches and zero missing selected files. No source files were deleted during the copy.

These results describe the selected files at the time of verification. They do not validate the meaning of every document, later edits or future hardware reliability. Ongoing backups and recovery checks remain separate operational responsibilities.

04How to evaluate the agent's contribution

The deliverable was more than a copied folder. It included selection rules, recovery records, verification results and an operational handover. The useful contribution was turning repetitive work into a traceable process with a defined finish condition.

There was no matched human-only baseline, so this case does not claim a time-saving percentage. A repeat study should record preparation, transfer, validation and correction time separately, including unsuccessful attempts.
